Character

A fresh, fruity, light and slightly sweet sparkling wine, salmon pink. Somewhat subtle bouquet, though with a certain diversity. The berry aspects (strawberry, raspberry) are dominant in the tasting team's notes; in addition there is a little pear and mandarin, light exotic fragrances and strawberry jam. On the palate the wine has a fine mousse, followed by an appealing combination of sweetness and acidity. It is medium-bodied and very harmonious, The flavours on the palate demonstrate once again the dominant fruit character of this sparkling wine; they are complemented by a fine rose fragrance and a slight candy note. Medium finish.

Region

Katalonien

Catalonia is a reputed region in the North-East of Spain. The Catalans are the driving force and the greatest innovators in the Spanish winegrowing world. They were the first to produce sparkling wine in accordance with the méthode champenoise in Penedès – Cava continues to play an important role here. This large wine region contains all microclimates one could possibly imagine for viticulture. In the vicinity of the coast, the sea ensures a fresh and humid climate, whereas further inland it tends to be dry and hot. Mountain ranges with their hilly ridges and steep slopes give rise to extraordinary terroirs, in particular calcareous and limestone soils. Supported by the innovative spirit of the native winegrowers, these natural conditions yield plenty of outstanding wines.

Producer/Brand

Freixenet

The most important traditional sparkling wine brand in the world (“Established in 1861”) takes its name from the ash groves in the area: Freixe is Spanish for ash. The declared aim of the company is that connoisseurs are transported by the passion and joie de vivre of the brand. The beginning of the firm’s unprecedented success story is marked by the marriage of Dolores Sala with her great love Pedro Ferrer Bosch. Together they formed an unbeatable team: Dolores was ahead of her time with detailed knowledge of winemaking, and combined with Pedro's alert sense of entrepreneurship their sparkling wines quickly gained fame and recognition. Today Pedro and Dolores’ children and grandchildren manage the family business.
