Region

Venetien

With its tourist hotspot of Venice, Veneto is one of Italy’s most popular wine regions – and among the country’s three largest. Geographically, Veneto is very diverse: One third of the area is covered in mountain ranges; the central planes contain extensive rice fields and are marked by a coastline. The Venetian wines are likewise multifarious. A rocky and calcareous soil, overlain with red and brown earth, provides the vines with good growth conditions. The foothills of the Alps secure the Northern border of the vast region and protect the area from the onslaught of the Northern-European weather –thus safeguarding a balanced climate. On the warmer plains on the Adriatic shore, predominantly red vine types are cultivated. Excellent white wines are produced in the cooler regions – undoubtedly the most well-known being Prosecco.

Producer/Brand

Botter

One of Veneto’s largest wine producers started off as a small vineyard estate in 1928, with just a few hectares of land and a small winery close to Venice on the border to Friaul. A family-run business till today, Botter underscores strict quality controls at the vineyard estate in Motta di Livenza and emphasises careful, gentle vinification. With an export share of 98 percent, Botter is clearly the market leader for wine exports from Venice – and all of Italy – to 40 countries.
