Character

Powerful notes of ripe wild berries dominate the bouquet of this garnet-red, fruity and well-balanced wine, with in addition a peppery dimension and a hint of vegetal notes. Appealing tannins and a soft, full body enchant the palate, where a touch of liquorice joins the berry and stone fruit flavours.

Region

Umbrien

Umbria, the lesser known neighbour of Tuscany, is covered in an ancient landscape with gentle hills, mighty mountain ranges, graceful valleys and romantic gorges – but its landscape is not the only miracle worth discovering: its wines are, too. The province in the heart of Italy – the capital of which is Perugia – is one of the few regions not flanking a coastline. Viticulture has flourished on both sides of the Tiber river from the times of the pre-Roman Etruscans and the Umbri, from whom the name is derived. Even today the region produces the finest white wines and premium red wines. Climatically and in terms of its soil, Umbria is similar to Tuscany, its western neighbour: The cold months are rainy, the summer is sunny and enjoys cool winds; the vineyards are located mostly on calcareous limestone and sandy soil.

Producer/Brand

Balteo di Orione

The creators of the Balteo di Orione are well aware of the special features of their winegrowing region: Umbria with its pristine nature is one of the best-kept secrets in Italy. Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon flourish gloriously here, and the producers of Balteo di Orione know which of their hillside plots provide the best conditions for an optimum ripening of the three grape varieties. Thanks to their great wealth of experience they have an enormous intuition for the perfect assemblage of grape varieties, which makes the Balteo di Orione a first-class pleasure.
