Bodegas Arzuaga

Pursuing his love of wine, Florentino Arzuaga acquired the unique La Planta winery in Quintanilla de Onésimo in 1982. Along the Golden Mile of Ribera del Duero where most of the famous wine cellars are located, this beautiful wine estate is perched on the hill of the Paramo. Due to the diverse flora and lush forests, the 150 hectare of vineyards enjoy a balanced climate and optimum growing conditions. Sunny days and cool nights allow mainly Tempranillo grapes of the highest quality to ripen here. Cultivated with great care, they produce complex, concentrated and dense wines in the unique manner of the Ribera del Duero terroir.

Ribera Duero

Ribera del Duero directly north of Madrid is among Spain’s most popular winegrowing regions, with an excellent reputation internationally. The region includes the upper Duero river valley east of Valladolid. At altitudes of 850 m a.s.l., the growth periods are short, winter frost is common and is found even in spring. In summer, the differences between day-time and night-time temperatures are significant, which results in a great potential for quality wines: low yields, high aroma concentration. The main vine type is Tinto Fino, a Tempranillo variety, which has adjusted well to the climatic conditions and produces pure dark, aromatic and intense red wines. As the soils are quite diverse and only calcareous terrains suitable for grapevines yielding top-most high-quality grapes are used, Ribera del Duero does not contain large connected vineyards.
